Ičići – Photography by Tihana RukavinaIčići is located in the north-east part of Istria Peninsula, where gentle slopes of Učka pass towards the sea, just 2 km from Opatija. Ičići is a touristic place positioned between Lovran and Opatija, famous worldwide for its ACI Marina- famous nautical centre and a beautiful attractive beach. Situated by the village centre, it is partly sandy beach and partly a concrete area. The beach is well managed and each year investments are made to further improve it, which is why it is regularly awarded with the prestigious "blue flag". The entrance to the beach is free and open for all. The beach is perfect for enjoying a variety of sports – beach volleyball, soccer, badminton on the sand, a water polo court in the sea. Children particularly love the beach's large water slide and a part especially planned for children to play. There are various restaurants to be found on the beach itself, a small supermarket that will satisfy everyone's needs, and free wireless internet access for all (WLAN). The beach is enclosed by the ACI Marina on one side, and merges with the little harbor of Ičići on the other side, which is as old as the village itself and has been developed alongside it. This harbor is meant for smaller vessels only and reminds us that Ičići is a coastal village. By its climate and numerous possibilities, Ičići is one of the rare places which can praise itself that tourists regularly come back to one of the most wanted places for a vacation. It is important to emphasize that coastal promenade known as the "Lungomare”, passes through Ičići. Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary ordered its construction in 1885, and it has been named after him. This beautiful coastal walk extends over 12 km from Volosko to Lovran with Icici marking just about its middle. In the evening hours it is discretely illuminated and ideal for romantic walks. There you can relax in peace, undisturbed by noise and stress of everyday life.
